Description of Chapter:
The mission of the Pi Beta Phi fraternity for women is to promote friendship, develop women of intellect and integrity, cultivate leadership potential, and enrich lives through community service. Pi Beta Phi is a values-based organization in which individual development is a key component. Pi Phis are a spirited group of women on campus involved in numerous activities such as DCGA, varsity sports, the Ladies Night Out a cappella group, and academic honoraries, among other exciting endeavors. To honor scholastics, Pi Beta Phi inducts members each semester into the Pearl and Pi societies based on both semester and cumulative grade point averages. Pi Beta Phi supports the Links to Literacy philanthropy, which consists of service projects relating to the advancement of literacy conceptualized and designed on the local level. Through this program, all active members participate in CAR (Champions Are Readers), a literacy program targeted at third grade students in which members visit a local elementary school and read with students several times per week during a designated month of each semester. To financially support these philanthropic efforts, Pi Beta Phi hosts the “Pi Phi Palooza”, an annual event held on campus designed to raise funds and promote sisterly bonding. When Pi Phis are not working hard at a sports practice, studying in the library, or doing community service, they are together supporting each other, laughing, and having fun!
