Description of Chapter:
Mission Statement: "Yesterday, today, and tomorrow, Kappa Alpha Theta exists to nurture each member throughout her college and alumnae experience and to offer a lifelong opportunity for social, intellectual, and moral growth as she meets the higher and broader demands of mature life." Kappa Alpha Theta is committed to the widest influence for good, intellectual growth, good moral character, and the social growth of each member. Kappa Alpha Theta was founded in 1870 as the first Greek-letter fraternity for women. Four visionary women at Indiana Asbury College sought to create an organization that would provide encouragement and support in the advancement of college and beyond. Theta's primary founder, Bettie Locke, wanted full membership into the male fraternity, Phi Gamma Delta. When the men asked Bettie to wear their fraternity badge as a "mascot" she responded "If you won't initiate me into your fraternity, I'll start my own" and she did! Today, Theta has more than 125 college chapters across the U.S. and Canada.
